To remove the drum you do remove the three screws. They may be rusted in
place. I bought a hand impact driver (at automotive stores) to assist in this
process; but a chisel and hammer can do the job. They can be quite stubborn.
In cases of last resort they can be drilled out. Usually, once the pressure
of the drum is off the screws they will turn quite nicely. One trick is to
use plenty of anti-seize compound when putting these screws back on. It
really helps in disassembly the next time.

The brakes are adjusted with the drums on. Back off the lock nut on the
backing plate and turn the brake bolt (they are ecentric cams) until the brake
shoe drags on the drum. Back it off slightly and tighten the lock nut back
down. Both front and rear shoes are adjusted the same way. The operators
manual gives very good directions on how this is done.

Hope this helps.
