You say it is a MB, but is it completely a MB.

My first (and currently only) GPW project kind of sounded the same way.
It was a GPW frame and it had an 'F' mark on the engines head.

After I got it home and started to learn more about MVs in general, I
found out my 1942 Ford GPW has: GPW frame, MB body, incorrect
transmission, MB radiator and a MB engine with a Ford head on it.

Good luck,

Rick
