I just have to share this with you all. About 1989 I was in Southern
Colorado at an old surplus yard that had been picked over and had had a
couple of clean up auctions. While there I happened to look out of the yard
about a quarter mile away was an outhouse on a nearby ranch. Sticking out
from behind it I could see the hood of a jeep. I quickly drove over there
and made a deal to purchase it. It was a 1943 GPW. But the engine was a
Willys....it gets Better. Daryl, one of the owners of the old scrap yard
said he had a jeep engine in one of the buildings. He did...it was a new GPW
engine assembly with a tag stating, "engine assembly, Ford Motor Company".
The boss was blank, so what! Needless to say, I purchased it ($75) and
installed it in the GPW after a 3 year !00% perfect restoration. GPW is now
in Tokyo, Japan. Gene
