Hi all,
Last weekend, My wife & I went see Saving Private Ryan. WOW! People have
asked me to describe my impression. To which I have to say"brutally
realistic!" It's overwhelming to see the battle scenes. I'd heard that the
first 20 mins. or so were hard to watch. I'd have agree, but, the last !/2
hour was pretty emotional. Usually when a movie shows the final scene, the
crowd immediately stands & starts to file out. At SPR, everyone sat still
until the credits started to roll. Then they filed out without saying a word!
I asked my wife(Julie) what she thought of the movie(she wanted to see it
too). Her reply:"It was a really good movie, but I don't think I'd like to see
it again". She told me later that it took her !/2 an hour to stop shaking
after the movie!
After watching the movie, I have a new found respect for anyone that served
in a military role. Especially during wartime(conflict, police action,
whatever).
My Grandfather served in WW II. And now I have an idea of just what he
endured(he served in the ETO from the "Bulge", on. He's due to visit from
Florida in Sept. & I want to know ALL about his experiences.
I hope that this letter makes someone else want to see it. You really should!
We all owe it to a vet!
In awe,
Darryl Bauman Jr
