[MV] Speaking of M38A1 Gas tanks...

All,

I'm picking up my gas tank from the radiator repair shop today. ($80 to fix pin
hole leaks, 2 coats of sealer). When I pulled the tank out, I noticed fragments
of a material that looked like old gasket paper about 2" wide. This was the
material that is sandwiched between the tank and the tub that I presumes
prevents the tank from wearing on the tub & vice versa. Its been a long time
since I looked at it. I can't remember if it was old rubber similar to inner
tube material or if it was a gasket material. Whatever it was, it was pretty
beat up and in my case wasn't doing much to help protect the tank.

Anybody know what that was originally? Easily available? Acceptable
substitutes? Better ideas?

TIA,

Greg Marks
