I have followed this thread with interest and decided to leave replying
to the questions it raises until it had obviously petered out - so
thanks to everyone who e-mailed me pointing out what was going on. As to
the people who thought I would actually tell them where it was so that
they could go take a look..........

A closer inspection of the diary pages would have revealed why there
were no photographs.

This is true and its an ongoing problem - for instance word has reached
us yesterday that 3 americans have been searching the woods in the
region where the JagdTiger currently resides. We also know of a number
of other sites with vehicles that are a constant worry as to whether
someone else will find them and remove them before we do as the are no
such thing as 'claims' out there.

Again this is one of our problems - some countries are exceedingly
strange about collectors removing bits of their 'heritage' if they find
out about it! But generally its a case of smiling sweetly and handing
over bundles of dollars...... I suspect that this was the problem in
Poland. Either way it was exceedingly stupid to have tried to transport
it across countries unless it absolutely was the last resort. By far the
best method is to get it to a port and onto a ship/ferry.

There are a number of private collectors around who just are not
interested in showing off their vehicles.
This is particularly prevalent in the USA where much of this equipment
goes because they can afford it having earned their money. They do not
have anything against people its just that they treat the vehicles in
the same way that an art collector treats his paintings - they keep them
under lock and key. One US Collector who springs to mind only collects
SdKfz 250's and variants [three of them supplied by us and another
soon], he has six of them at the moment but you will probably never see
him at a show because he is a recluse. The PAK we recovered is already
in the USA at another collectors and has joined a number of other
vehicles that we have recovered over the years - all of which have gone
to private collectors but we would have quite willingly delivered them
to a museum if they met the expenses. Museums, however, expect you to
donate them. As for the public collectors all they will do is argue,
argue and then complain when they cant get the spares to make it run.

But having had my say I will now say this - just to show that we do not
always just offer everything to private collectors. We will have a
Panzer III Ausf J available next year, its complete and intact apart
from an ap penetration in the hull lhs and turret rhs & lhs rear doors.
Our assessment of this vehicle is that it will run after a strip down,
replacement of some minor parts and rebuild. Fancy it? well you can have
it for the recovery costs plus expenses. About $30,000 should be okay -
cash on delivery. Please do not ask us where this is located as a
refusal often offends.

Having said all this I should point out that our group does do other
military history related things besides recovering vehicles.
