[MV] troubleshooting GPW engine

I just fired up my 42 GPW after 2 years of spare time rebuilding. I pretty
much did the entire frame and running gear. The body will have to wait. It
was tough putting the body back over the restored frame....it covered
everything.

Anyway, the engine isn't running right. I did a complete rebuild...boar,
valves, hard seats, all pumps, crank turned, head milled ...everything. It
starts easily but there seems to be a lot of fuel getting dumped by the carb
into the intake at idle. There also seems to be a lot of unburned fuel out
the exhaust. It sputters and spits out the exhaust. Idle is rough but not
horrible. I rebuilt the carb plus I tried another carb that is known to be
good. Full ignition tune-up was done during the rebuild. Timing/dwell is
right . Does this sound like a vacuum leak? Why so much fuel down the carb?
I will put another set of wires on it again but I ruled that out before
because I tried different wires with the other carb too. This is an early 42
without the PCV system. Any other ideas???????
Any more ideas?
