Don't know if you saw it or not, but MVPA's Army Motors number 73 has an
article about stars like you describe, complete with pictures. The stars
in the article are 9 sided vice your 8 and are said to belong to the 9th
Service Command. Yours being 8 sided, and the 8th Service Command's HQ
being in Dallas sure fits with your Texas truck. Anyway, the article is a
good one and would be worth checking out if you haven't already seen it.
