I heartily agree with Joe Baker's comment about the tendency to over
restore military vehicles. I put a lot of work into my 1945 MB to be
as exact as I could in the restoration. Since the original markings
were ground off, I copied the markings on the Jeep my Father-in-law
Jim Lynch drove in WWII. He had several pics of him and the Jeep
in his scrap book. Well, many thousand dollars and untold hours later,
my MB was ready for Jim's inspection. The ole vet walked around the
MB and stood there shaking his head. He said "Joe, you've done one
beautiful job, but to tell you the truth, we never had anything this nice."
Serious case of over restoration. Much to the dismay of some of my
peers, I did leave a little overspray on from stenciling!
