On several MB and GPW engines I reworked, I took a lead shotgun pellet and
put a hole in it with a ice pick. This pellet was inserted where the
pressure tube goes into the oil filter canister. The oil filter was removed
(cartridge) permanently. This not only increased oil pressure but allowed a
trickle to lubricate the chain or gear at the front of the engine. These oil
filter systems were basically worthless. They were all that was available at
the time. Oil does not break down folks, just gets dirty and contaminated.
So by changing the oil a little more frequently, you wind up with a much
better running machine. After all, who drives his GPW every day on the
highway. Be realistic. 1SG PANTANO
