[MV] Cleaning Bakelite (Corrosion?)

Hello
I've been digging around in an old surplus
dealers piles and found a couple engine
electrical test adapter kits.
Tracked vehicle stock # 4910-378-2020
Wheeled vehicle stock # 17-A-3150

The tracked set is NOS and still has
packing in it. The wheeled vehicle set
has been used and has a white soap or
wax built up on the black bakelite (I think)
parts. Also got a jet fighter stick with same
substance. What is the best or maybe easiest
way to clean. Scraping off with plastic knife getting
old.
Can I get some more info on these; wheeled one has
some instructions on inside cover and tracked one
has a pamphlet inside but is more of a list of parts.
I have a M-37 (3/4 ton dodge pickup) and can figure
out most of the wheeled stuff.

Thanks again
