Yes it is. The other thing why air over hydraulic brake systems were=20
used in the past is that hydraulic cylinders are small and so everything
is inside the brake drum. So the cylinders are less vulnerable when
driving in heavy off road conditions.

But the disadvantages of hydraulic brakes on big vehicles are so big,
that it is not used any more. In Germany all trucks with around 7.5=20
metric tons total weight and more have air brakes today, without any
hydraulics. The modern ones have air operated disk brakes.=20

Only the UNIMOG has still air over hydraulic brakes. If you have anything
to repair on the UNIMOG's brake system, make sure you are a rich man...
(1 disk =3D $ 530, 1 disk caliper =3D $ 1060; + tax and + work...)
