The exhaust manifold in my 1971 Chevy 6 cylinder van is failing for
the second time. I had to replace a cracked exhaust manifold in my
M135 and I notice my 1973 Chevy 1 ton truck w/350 V8 has a miss.
I've also been involved in antique motor vehicles for 30+ years and
never had all the problems I'm having now related to gasoline. Many
of my cars date in the 1920s through the 1950s and after they sit
for too long, I have to contend with the horrible residue that forms
in and on the carbs (and vacuum tanks on the old Dodges). I've
used fuel stabilizers, but without success. The rank smell that's
emitted from the exhaust of vehicles equipped with a catalytic
convertor leads me to think we're making more polutants and not
less with all this no-lead nonsense. I also notice problems in the
gas tanks after they've been sittting for long periods. I haven't
delt with that problem yet.
