Knowledgible Listers,

I have been thinking today about conversation I have had with both of my grandf
athers who are ww2 vets. One drove CCKW's around Europe following Patton,
and the other was a Navy flight engineer. The flight engineer grandfather
came to see me about a month ago and in conversation about mv's related to me a
n event of the previous winter. He was traveling in South Texas and happened t
o go to a Confederate Air Force airshow where they had the last flying B29 on
display. After some conversations with the crew and some studying, my grandfat
her realized that he had flown this particular a/c during its active service.
A somewhat disbelieving crew was quickly convincedhis claim was real when he to
ld them about certain unique features in the interior of the a/c that he could
have known no other way. My point to this longwinded post is this: Most of us
in our respective countries know family members or friends who are vetrans.
Not only should we take the time to thank them for their service but we can
also show them through our hobby that they are remembered. I would have given
anything to be able to view the flashbacks my grandfather had after seeing
an aircraft that was part of his life 50 years ago. We can preserve the machin
ery easy enough. But we should take advantage of every opportunity to preserve
the history as seen by those who used our mv's for their intended purposes.

Thank you to those of you and your countrymen who fought for the same freedoms
under different flags.

Brian J. Leffler

p.s. Thanks for your patience Arthur.
