Wow! The list is fired up about something directly related to MVs and not
political correctness (I'm guilty of) or chain letters
.
I've also got one of them thar engineering degrees and I built a twin turbo
3.2 liter Porsche that made over 400 ft lbs of torque. I've probably bought
and sold fifty 2 1/2 and 5 ton 6X6s over the past 10 years.

Given that, Andreas is right, a turbo engine (with a properly sized turbo)
will make more power because you can throw more fuel at it. In the real world
of these de-tuned, under powered, chunks of iron there are many other factors
which affect the performance more than if it's turboed or not, like fuel
settings and tire pressure (I couldn't get my first duce over 45mph untill I
pumped the tires up to 50psi). In many cases the turbo truck isn't getting
any more fuel than the non-turbo but it's also true that the average-off the
shelf-turbo duce will usually out preform the average non-turbo duce but the
turbos are so undersized for these 478ci motors that with some tuning I can
make a non-turbo duce keep up with your average turbo duce. I don't know the
exact specs of the turbos but they appear to be of a similiar size to turbos
we used on 2.5 liter 944s, a much smaller engine.

As far as posted horse power I thought the LDs were around 140 and the LDSs
were at 210 and the LDS/2s were even more.

What Richard said about the difference between turbos makes sense. The 1cs
whistle and they have a larger diameter exhaust housing held on by a clamp and
the 1ds don't whistle and they have a smaller diameter and fatter exhaust
housing held on by bolts.

In the end I'm just as guilty of having a macho whistling machine. I hauled
some vets in a Christmas parade last weekend and the sound was defening. My
main duce is a 1973 AM General M35A2C w/ a LDS that will blow any of you mo
fos into the weeds! Ha!

Also ear plugs are not enough-you should really wear head phones.
