[MV] cranes/wreckers

I just got a 5 ton M51 dump and I've been doing some work on it. =

Fortunately nothing major is wrong with it, all minor stuff. I have a
crane on my one ton truck that I built and I have to tell you that they a=
re
very very handy. I don't know how I lived without this thing before! Th=
e
thing about working on a big vehicle (and you should know this with your
DUKW) is that everything requires equipment. You just can't pickup the
tire and throw it on the hub when you want to change it. The problem wit=
h
restoring a crane or something that big is that you really need some
serious facilities to do any major work. For instance, say you have to
remove the cylinder on the crane and rebuild it. You can't just pick up=
a
wrench and take it off. You need a chain fall setup or another crane to
pick it up and remove it. So the big problem I see is that you need big
equipment to work on big equipment. Of course there is always the money
issue, but if you can afford the equipment to work on a crane truck, then=

the money issue is probably manageable.

Personally I like the M62 and the M246?? (5 Ton IH with a crane and a fif=
th
wheel)

about these vehicles. At this point I'm just searching for information.
Anybody out there into or doing restorations on a Mack, Standardized 6 To=
n,
or Oshkosh trucks that could give me some advice on how difficult
restorations of these type of trucks are? Before I jump in with both fee=
t,
I'd really like to know how deep the water is!

I've asked Santa for Bart's new book on Macks, maybe that will provide mo=
re
information on the big monster. Hearing from anyone with further
information about these vehicles (or where I can go to get it) would be
greatly appreciated. =

Thanks again, =
