[MV] POWERED TOW VEHICLES

The thread about powered trailers leads me to ask about towing 2.5 and 5
ton trucks. I have been told that the army had a system that utilized a
driveshaft that linked the last differential flange of the towing truck
to the front axle flange of the truck being towed. This used in
conjunction with a tow bar made down or dead vehicle recovery easier and
could even be continued to create a multivehicle train. I have heard and
of the driveshaft but have never seen a picture or spoke with anyone who
actually witnessed this evolution being practiced. Anyone have details,
confirmation or rebuttal?

Inquiring truck owners want to know.
