I have no experience with 1977 military Dodges, but the civilian Dodges also did not use lockout hubs from 1976 to 1979. I believe they are the same. The truck should be usable as is. The civilian Dodges are more expensive to repair and I believe they are not as reliable. If you want to convert to hubs, I believe the transfer case will need a part time kit installed also. I used a 1974 NP205 gear drive transfer case and a 1974 axle with hubs in my project.
