Wire ropes are of three types; fiber, strand and independent wire
core. Each type serves its basic purpose, that of affording support
to the strands around it. Metallic cores will withstand high operating
pressure, resist heat, give minimum stretch and additional strength.
However, fiber cores are more adequate for winches because of the
increased flexibility and elasticity of a wire rope.
