Re: [MV] Generator Repair

I have found the operation of this set a bit confusing without the manual.
It could be that the RPM's are not up to 3600 which would reduce the
voltage and Hertz. Does the owner know what the voltage is at full
throttle, is it putting out 220v at something other than 60Hertz or is the
voltage off too? What phase is the selector set to single or three? Also,
it could just be the Hertz guage is incorrect.
Sorry I cant answer your question directly but I do have the operators
manual for this set, so it you need info referenced from that let me know.
I also have one of these sets that works great, so if you need me to check
anything on the actual running set also let me know.
I paid 350$ for mine (from Saturn) with a good genset and so-so engine. I
had an engine from a 28VDC set which I swapped in.
Colemans gets 600$ for a complete one.
So I would think 300 or 350 for a good engine and so-so genset is fair.
Saturn seems to have most of the parts and knows quite a bit about these
sets, IMHO.

I'm going to look at an ex-military generator (3KW) with a four cylinder
Continental engine that produces both single phase and triple phase
current (according to the owner). The current owner says that it needs
some repair in that it is not producing 60 cycles (at least that's what
the gauge indicates) and that he hasn't been able to get it set
properly. My questions are: 1) Is setting and maintaining 60 cycles a
costly procedure? and, 2) what's a fair price for a unit like I've
described?

Needing a quick answer. Thanks!

Robert
