Left side lug nuts are left handed on your M38 and many other jeeps. This
was a design future that was to keep the lugs from becoming loose when the
jeep was driven. Later on the engineers found out that it did not make any
difference and went to the right handed threads for everything. You can
probably notice a stamped L on the end of the stud on the left side wheels..

Don't feel like the Long Ranger. I nearly broke my arm trying to get a
wheel off a jeep in 1967 that had left handed threads and many more have
done the same thing.

Remember left is lefty!!!!
