Yeah,Yeah, I've heard the same story time & again: "After the guy used an
impact wrench on my wheel nuts, I couldn't remove them even with an eight
foot pipe on my four foot breaker bar".
The truth is: If the idiot using the impact had any brains, they wouldn't be
that tight. Today there is a product on the market called "Torque sticks".
What they are is a set of long shafted sockets that have different diameter
shafts. the thicker the diameter, the higher the torque provided. You look up
the proper torque for the vehicle you're working on & use the corresponding
torque stick. Viola! no more problems/ warped brake drum/rotors/loose
wheels/warped wheels!
Its known as idiot proofing.
Also, make sure the wheel studs are lubricated, or you still may have
problems the next time for wheel removal. I've seen more than one rusted on.(
It's not ALWAYS the tire tech's fault, though they are usually the newest kid
in the shop)
The view from my side of the fence,
Darryl
