Mike & List,

What I did was go to a hobby shop that had Testors brand model paints.
Their "Masters" line is matched to the FS standards and are clearly
marked on the bottle.

Since their flats are designed primarily for model armour and other MV
kits, you can buy a full range of Olive drabs, forrest greens, sands,
etc.

Each bottle was about 1.90 or so.

I took some scrap metal, sprayed a base coat of red oxide primer and
then painted a 2 in stip of each color. Then I stuck some white paper
across the edge of the strips and wrote the FS number and what color
Testors called it. (most match with the FS name)

Then I went out in broad daylight and held this "color chip" plate
next to areas on my vehicles that I wanted to check out.

For what it's worth, the AERVOE flat Olive Drab 34087 matched exactly
with the Testors 34087.

I also painted some 3 x 5 white card stock with the colors as I was
painting the primed metal just to have a more "portable" color chip
referance to stick in my pocket if I needed it.

I had collected about 12 different bottles of "greens" and didn't add
the browns or sands. I did leave space on my metal sample plat to add
these colors if and when.

Hope this helps....

Oh, now I have some colors to paint a 1/35 model of my CMP!

Anyone else made a model of their own full scale mv?

Cheers
Jim

Does anyone know who to contact to get paint sample sheets from the various
mil paint manufacturers we have access to, like Gillespie or Aervoe? It'd be
a help for me to have them to look at as I squint at my toys and decide which
shade of green suits them best...... mike in VA
