Brent,
A carb rebuild won't help a lack of spark.
1. Turn ignition on and check for a spark at the points by opening and
closing
them (make sure you aren't on the opening point of the dist.cam). You
should
get a spark. If not, with the points closed,use your finger to rub the
contacts together, in case of dirt(you did file them with a points file?
don't
use emery or similar) now try again.
2. still no spark? check for voltage at the coil positive (with ignition
on)
if not check at the switch and back to battery from there.
This should get you started. My guess is the ignition points at
fault
