[MV] Vehicle painting

I've been reading the ongoing discussion regarding painting of jeeps. In
the USMC, we were tasked, not as the motor pool mechs, but as the regular
grunts that took the jeeps out, to paint our vehicles. Because there was
no such thing as CARC paint in use then, we used whatever spray paint we
could find, as long as it was tan, or, olive, or black. I never had the
pleasure of seeing a jeep in pristine, freshly painted condition. They
always seemed to have that "worn" look to them, clean, servicable, but
used, like a comfortable pair of boots or a salty set of utilities. There
were folks that tried to make their jeeps look "parade ground fresh", but
that only made the rest of us chuckle, and not take them seriously. (Kind
of like a chrome helmet...)
What "look" are you all trying to achieve? (Please don't take offense, I'm
still learning the ropes.)
