No, the 5 ton and 21/2 ton will not interchange. Aside from internal
differences, they require different be housing. Shaft size is probably
different to. Also, whether replacing the tranny in deuce or 5 ton, the
transmissions are different depending on whether the truck has multifuel or
gas engine. Gas has direct final drive, multifuel has overdrive. If you are
willing to give up some off road and pulling performance, you can swap the
multifuel (overdrive) tranny into the gasser and get more road speed or turn
lower revs.
