Possibly they have come a long way. The ones I was referring to were
the ones I have personally seen and similar "modern"ones from Russia.
The Urals I have seen are up to what I would determine now to be up to
about '70s technology. The Chinese ones I saw were just poor knock offs
of the '40s BMW.
Maybe "new"" Chinese M/C's are better than the ones I have
encountered. However, I have yet to see anything from China that is of
superior quality. Firearms, for instance are of lesser quality, but do
work.
The Enfield motorcycle used in the WWII by the British forces is still
available in a similar form by the same company that made them back then.
Its in India. Nice Bikes, modernized somewhat, but retain the same
design from way back them. They sell a solo military bike for I believe
about $5K. Available here in the US.
Are these civilian models you speak of or military ones. Just the M/C
driven wheel or does it have a shaft to the car therefore being 2 WD ?
How much $ to import a test model. Then you could get some cycle mag
here to test ride it and generate some interest. I'd like to take a look
at one. Might change (or reinforce) my opinion of them. I still have my
'77 BMW along with a couple of Guzzi's (even had a new Harley a couple of
years ago) in among the "green" stuff, so I know a thing or 2 about
M/C's. Been continuously riding now for , oh,......22 years now. Time
