[MV] A DUCK'S SAD TAIL

Hi All;

It was on the national (so called) news tonight that the rubber gasket that
several of you mentioned was the culprit. Water was rushing in and the
pilot tried to turn the vehicle around to head back. That is probably why
it capsized and sank. The life jackets may have helped some if they had
been worn but the canopy would have still been a major problem to escape.
I remember when I was a kid in the '50s in Jax Beach Florida there was a
tour company that used ducks to take tourists out on rides through the surf
and up and down the beaches area. They were very popular until one got
sideways in the breakers on a high surf day and was flipped over. Several
people were drounded / crushed and the rides ceased for good. It is a
shame but there is some element of risk involved in anphibious operations.
Lakes are, of course, not nearly as big a problem.

best regards,
