The problem might be in your brakes at all. WWII jeeps have a natural
tendancy to pull to the left when the brakes are applied, especially during
hard breaking. This is because the steering bellcrank is mounted on the front
axle assy. When the brakes are applied the front axle housing has a tendancy
to roll forward which pulls on the steering bellcrank and pushes the steering
arms to the left. This was addressed in a WWII issue of Army Motors and
points out that since it is a natural tendancy of the design you might not be
able to make it go away all together but wear or damage in any of the
associated assemblies could amplify the problem. Inspect your entire steering
system, front axle assy, and springs and mountings and you may find your
problem there. Loose U bolts holding the front axle to the springs would
probably make the problem very severe. Start there and good luck.
