Hi List

CU in Normandy ?

I'll be there between 3rd - 7th June, Staying at the Hillman Battery just
south of Colleville Montgomery (Colleville sur Orne... the WW2 name...
changed by the French for some unknown reason)....

I'm taking my 1944 Bedford MW V - hoping it'll be the only one there and
thus fairly distinguishable... especially when parked amongst all those
Jeeps ;-)).

Unfortunately it's not really mint... having suffered the ravages of time
and still not yet complete... NEED WINDSCREEN.... (still)....

For identification... it looks just like an late pattern MW where someone
dumped an oversize box on the back... which overhangs the rear chassis by
about 18in, is about 5.5ft high (8ft inc the chassis)... and has the RAF
serial no painted down the sides of the doors. The Box body is made of sheet
aluminium on the sides, with a steel roof, and has small sliding windows in
the side and double doors at the back... the spare wheel is slung
underneath, reducing the ground clearance considerably... and the elongated
wheelarch - which is correct - gives the impression there should be a double
rear axle... however there isnt enough room... the elongated wheelarch is
designed such the box body could be put onto any 15cwt truck in RAF service
without the need for modification.... due to the differences in chassis and
axle configuration. The cab is running with Original Canvas... so I'm hoping
its not going to rain... otherwise things could be rather unpleasant.

I'll be off to Point du Hoc, Omaha, US Cemetary, Port en Bessin, then
Bayeaux on Thursday 3rd.... visiting the RAF Advance Landing Ground near
Chateaux Martagny.... then back to Hillman Battery for Tea.

After that.... who knows... you wont see the MWV over at Utah or St Mere
Eglise... unless my arm get twisted really hard... It's just too far
really... and I've been there about 5 times already.

So if you see me anywhere, please drop in for a beer.... or if the fridge is
off line... just to say hello.

Cheers

Tim
