I ran into a fellow who both works at APG as well as volunteers at the
museum.
After an enjoyable chat, one topic was funding. I had heard of a
method of "adopting" a particular gun emplacement in an earlier time
period. Reenactor units would either contribute money to restore and
maintain a particular gun and would also perform a unit work weekend
on that gun. Etc.Etc.

The fellow liked the idea and would bring it up to the museum staff.

It may not be something a unit or individual could do every weekend,
but if a chapter or reenactment group could come over maybe twice a
year, and adopt a tank or field piece, we might get a few more
vehicles a little closer to good condition.
I can imagine all the guys from my WWII Welsh Guards reenactment unit
climbing all over the Churchhill or Vickers Light Tank!

At the least, the museum could focus its funds on vehicles no one
adopts.

There might be some fringe benefits if the program is
sucessful...Access to the inside for photo-ops, wearing WWII work
clothes and always the potential to recruit while your unit is
working. Maybe setting up a camp on the grounds near the tank for both
a display and cheap place to sleep.

Think about it.

Does any other museum have a similar program that you (the list) know
of?

Cheers
Jim
