It holds the hood up. Look about half way down the side of your hood
there should be a metal strap held on by two bolts (or at least two
bolt holes) that the rod hooks to to hold the hood up at 90
degrees...Now if only my garage was a couple of inches higher I could
use it.
By the way does anybody have the metal clip that hols teh end of the rod
against the winshiels when not in use mine has rusted and broken off
