Hi List,

For what it is worth I have a 42 GPW too. I have only ever had experience
with this jeep so here goes....

Firstly, I have the early fuel tank & seat combo. The smaller filler cap
variety.

When the tank runs "real low, like near empty" my guage defects to "FULL"
and stays there for a short while. After a few miles it drops back to
"EMPTY". I then know that I've got about 8 miles of fuel left before I start
walking.

If the sender unit has got a short circuit to ground on it you will get the
FULL reading. An OPEN circuit gives EMPTY.

My manual states that the FULL reading is most likely the sender, not the
guage. As you already have a new sender, see if it is shorting to ground in
or on the tank.

Rgds,

John
