I agree with list about trailering but have towed three of my ( non
running) M38A1's and an M715 several times with the adjustable
military tow bar and have found that if you get every thing in a
straight line and put someone in the towed vehicle to hold the
steering wheel straight and back up very slowly while tapping the
Jeeps brakes rapidly 3 or 4 times it seems to re-compress every thing
which makes unhooking/disassembly easier with less "Hammer Time".
Don't try it with out the second driver or instantaneous,
unintentional field modification of one or both vehicles sheet metals
can occur with little time to even say "OH SH..!" .
And, just for a point of information, NEVER EVER leave the pre
surveyed, pre planned route of march if you are dragging one crip M35
with another M35 with all other big rigs in front of you and convoy
lead looks at map to find "short cut" around traffic jam. You will
find convoy shunted on to one lane city street with cars parked on
both sides (strangely all facing the way you are coming) due to ....
( fill in blank with construction, accident,etc.)and lead will detail
the tail to "find another way around this mess" and the local
constabulary will point out you are going down a one way street in
the wrong direction and the bridge ahead is rated ton and half MAX
and you gotta back out and there's no one behind ya to pull the crip
backwards and you find out (following the LT's orders )after
disconnecting the tow bar, that those cute little bumperettes just
make a lot of screeching noises but perform little other protection,
and the well intentioned encouragement shouted gleefully by the
indigenous population is really annoying ... Well, just don't go
there.
