The techniques for reparing tent are the same as those used to repair
parachutes. A sourcebook for parachute repair techniques is "The Parachute
Manual" by Dan Poynter. Here is a URL to a vendor:

http://aero.com/catalogues/books/4290.htm

This book is known as the "rigger's Bible".

If the repair is in a flat region of the canvas, then the repair will be a patch
applied as double flat fell seam around the perimeter of the patch. The seam
will have a double line of stitching, there will be no raw edges visible. The
stitching will be about 6 stitches per inch, but should match whatever is used in
nearby seams of similar kind.

If the repair is in a webbing or reinforcement, then the same type of stitching
(box-X, W, box-w, etc) should be used as is used in similar construction.
