Also forgot to say the easiest way to flush brakes is to take a pump up
sprayer like you use for garden work. take a old master cyl lid drill a hole
in it and install a hose barb. fill the sprayer with brake fluid and pump it
up and just bleed away. Works better and is a lot cheaper than any
commercial brake bleeding kit I've seen.

Subject: [MV] M20 Armored Car Brakes

>From George Mele, Crownsville, Md

Am in the process of helping Bill Wilson prepare his Ford M20 for the car
and military vehicle show at Fort Meade, MD on 3 July. Having problems with
brakes and would like to solicit assistance from readers of this post.
Vehicle is fully restored M20 with all NEW brake components. Has been
sitting for over a year and virtually all wheel cyls are leaking fluid--DOT
5 silicone fluid. Most of fluid in system is gone. Suspect that DOT 5 was a
bad choice for this vehicle and intend to flush remainder and fill with DOT
3 or 4 conventional fluid, rebleed system , and hope for the best.
Questions: Has anyone else had similar problems with silicone fluid? Any
comments about flushing procedure to remove silicone ? Bill also
would like to know if it would be possible to substitute hydraulic oil for
the brake fluid--cylinders in the M20 have synthetic rubber piston seals
(probably neoprene) so swelling would not be problem. One readily apparent
drawback would be fluid thickening in cold weather but this is a
three-season vehicle. Solicit comments and info pro and con.
