Air over hydraulic have the deficiencies of air as well as the deficiencies of
hydraulic. The reason they are (were) used is that it was thought they
performed
better in mud and water, because hydraulic systems are "enclosed" as
opposed to air systems that are pretty much wide open.

Today the new series of tactical vehicles have gone to straight air. Although
they "forgot" to put in anti-skid systems and now the govt has a multi million
dollar retrofit program to refit them with anti skid, after many vehicles
tipped
over at high speeds.
