[MV] M-38 engine ID +

Hi,

I just got my new M-38 home. It is remarkably nice and unrestored but I know
the engine has been changed. The question is "to what". It has a Willys
flathead with the 24V stuff including the distributor but it has studs where
the Coil would go on an MB or CJ as well as a draft tube on the valve cover.
It has a double fan belt but a civvy fuel pump.
A friend says he has a spare M-38 block but how do I identify a real M-38
block? Where there VIN #'s on the blocks? Where?
Can you recommend a reference book and where to buy it?

I will also need the cowl battery cover as well as the expensive engine
compartment battery box (modified with a hot wrench). Other than that it
looks like it has almost everything including seats and a nice arctic top,
brackets, unbent front bumper (!)

It also has instructions for an engine heater attached to the glove box. I
suppose that and the top means it was a cold weather jeep. Does anyone have
references for that?

Tom
