List,

If you plan to be in the Upper Midwest during the last week of July, you may
wish to take in the Fort Snelling Military Expo, in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
It is, essentially, an open house which is hosted by the various branches of
the military that are located at Fort Snelling. Literally every branch is
represented. Admission is free and the hours are from 1100 to 1900 on
Saturday the 31st of July and Sunday the 1st of August. The site is broken
down into four areas, which are served by free shuttle bus service from the
various parking lots.

Area 1: Army Reserve and Army National Guard exhibits, concerts several
times per day by the 451st Army Reserve Band (excellent musicians), Vehicle
and equipment displays, WWII battle reenactment each day at 1300, vehicle
parade (20-25 vehicles) and car crushing demonstration at 1400 each day, the
"Traveling Wall" which is a reproduction of the Vietnam Memorial will be in
place and open to the public starting on 26 July.

Area 2: Air National Guard Museum with aircraft from WWII to the present
(including, I believe, one of the two surviving SR-71 Blackbirds)

Area 3: Air Force Reserve Base with modern fighter and transport aircraft
and equipment displays

Area 4: The original 1830's Fort Snelling, complete with reenactors, musket
shoots and cannon firings.

As you may have guessed, I am involved with the vehicle parade and car
crushing. I am a member of the Museum staff and we are working hard to make
this an entertaining and informative program. Several local MV enthusiasts
will be bringing their vehicles for the display and parade. If you would
like to participate, please contact me off list. By the way, the Museum is
always looking for people interested in the hobby, especially those who like
to come in and "turn wrenches".

We aren't anywhere near the size of Beltring, but we will have a fair amount
of operational armor in our parade, and we are always working to get more of
our stable into running condition. Unfortunately, there is no provision for
sales booths at this Expo. There simply isn't room. Fort Snelling is a
fairly small area.

Sorry for the length of this posting. If you have any questions, please
contact me off list.

John
