[MV] M-38 Transmission

List:

I've got a recurring problem with the transmission/clutch on my 52 M-38. I
had it rebuilt last summer by a reputable guy on Cape Cod. However, not too
long after, I noticed a problem where the gears would grind slightly when
shifting into second. It seemed as though the clutch was not completely
disengaging and was still spinning. I check the operators manual, and it
suggested tightening the tension on the clutch cable. I did, and the problem
seemed to go away. However, it returned. There are days where I'll tighten
the cable, and it will shift like a dream. I'll take it for a 1/2 hour spin,
and by the time I return, you couldn't force it into gear, even at a dead
stop. Any similar experiences? I've now got the cable tight as it will go
(the jam nut won't go down any further). Could the cable be stretching?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
Chris DeWitt
