HI FOLKS...

I HAVE A FUNNY GPW HEAD. ANY COMMENTS ?

- IT IS GENERALLY OF THE SAME DESIGN AS THE ORIGINALS,
NO REINFORCEMENTS ETC.

BUT:

- ONLY MARKINGS ARE "GPW" AT OIL FILTER BRACKET AREA
AND
- AN ILLEGIBLE 6 DIGIT NUMBER WHERE USUALLY THE
FIRING ORDER INFO IS. THIS NUMBER DOES NOT MATCH
ANY POSSIBLE CORRESPONDING PARTS NUMBER

THE ABOVE MARKINGS ARE "RAISED" IN THE CAST.

THE "FIRING ORDER" AND "TAPPET CLEARANCE" MARKING
IS MISSING ENTIRELY.

THE HEAD WAS ORIGINALLY PAINTED FORD GREY...

THE GPW ENGINE IT WAS ON, CAME EX A GPW FROM
THE FRENCH ARMY AND WAS AUCTIONED IN THE 1970IES,
AND EVER SINCE NOT TOUCHED OR RESTORED.

DOES ANYONE KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PART ?

I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IT WAS A REPRODUCTION ONE,
AS:
- IT IS PAINTED GREY, NOT OD OR SIMILAR
- IN THE 1970 THE FRENCH HAD ENOUGH NOS SPARES
DATING BACK FROM WARTIME PRODUCTION, AND THE
ALTERNATIVE WOULD HAVE BEEN A HOTCHKISS HEAD
OR OTHER HEADS SUPPLIED THROUGH HOTCHKISS / WILLYS
DEALERS (CJ2A / CJ3A ETC).
-WHY WOULD A REPRODUCTION "JEEP" HEAD IN THE 1950IES,
60IES,70IES BE MARKED "GPW" IF THE VEHICLE WAS
GENERALLY DESIGNATED "JEEP" OR "1/ 4 TO TRUCK" OR
"M201" OR "WILLYS" BY THE ARMY ?
- THE MILITARY LIKES TO LABLE EVERYTHING TO MAKE SURE
NOTHING IS MISUNDERSTOOD OR USED IN THE WRONG WAY, BUT
ON THIS HEAD THE "FIRING ORDER" AND "TAPPET" INFO IS MISSING.

ANY PRE 1970 PRODUCED GREY / BLACK MARKET PARTS SUPPLIERS
WOULD BE HAPPY TO USE THE BRAND NAME "JEEP"... NOT "GPW"

PLEASED TO HEAR...
KEEP THEM ROLLING
