A few months ago I asked one of these "hot shot" specialty delivery guys,
what they did on the homeward bound leg. Mentioned moving a jeep. He said
that most of them "dead head" going home and would be happy to carry a jeep
for "gas money" to get home. He said to go to "truckstop.com" and enter your
needs. Also said that the "Flying J" Truck Stops had a similar system. Put
that you need 2,000 pounds moved from Baltimore to San Francisco. According
to this driver, it may take a few hours to a day, but somebody will get back
to you. They may want to deliver it to San Jose, but that's closer than
Baltimore.
I haven't tried this system, but it seems like it would work. You see a
whole lot of empty trailers going up and down the road. Good Luck Tom
