Having had problems with NOS (New Over Shrunk....) cork gaskets, I have
successfully used Silicon Window sealant (rather than automotive variety) It
comes in the pump cartridges and certainly forms a very tight seal. I have
used it on my M16, M3A3 Stuart and several M35 transmissions to replace both
paer and cork gaskets.
