The absolute best silicone gasket is available from Fuji Heavy
Industries, it's called Fuji Bond. easiest availability is from a
Subaru dealer, the best features are:
1. it never gets "hard"
2. it can be applied to, and will stick to, an oily surface

Pricey, yes, about $30.00 US for a 8oz. tube, but it works.
