I think Arthur is operating his server on a Macintosh platform.
Upgrading Mac Hardware to state-of-the-Art G3 Mac technology and
PowerPC software is going to cost more like 3,500 to $4,000,
IMHO...
I suggested that he loook at a PC Platform running LINUX, which
is very stable and used professionally all over the
place...Does'nt even requires "Intel inside"! That could be done
for around $2,000, including new software.

NOW, OneList is a very good option too, as others have already
pointed out. I have recently started there a small list
dedicated to Harley XA's and Indian 841's, and added to it a
free 5Meg site where subscribers can post binaries. Cost to me
is ZERO, but of course I don't expect much more traffic than 20
or 30 subscribers. Onelist, however, can accommodate large
numbers of subscribers on any given list.

And, to anwer Daniel Parmley: Yes, an "Established Business" is
considered a Vendor, as is anybody whose main purpose in
catering to the hobby is to make a profit and a living from his
transactions. Selling your extras to buy more of what you need,
trading parts and the like, does not, IMO qualify someone as a
vendor. In the end, it is all between you and your conscience,
obviously...But who would want to try and rip-off Arthur anyway?
And the traffic on the list IS significant enough for a Vendor
to justify a higher subsidy, especially if you add
"word-of-mouth" dissemination of information posted on the list
and the "buzz" it can generate. Anyway, we're not exactly
talking mass market when it comes to O.D. Mil-Vehs...

Now, all we need is an address where to send subsidies...
