[MV] Jumping from 27V welder? and novice winch mistake

Hi all,
First, feel free to chuckle, or outright laugh at these things, I'm new and
don't mind sharing my antics.
Has any one ever tried jumping a dead 24V system from a DC 27V welder
source? It seems that it should work, having up to 225 amps (mine, any way)
available for starting. What amperage would a person set it at to try that,
or would you set it at max and let it draw what it wants?
Could you charge the batteries that way, on low amperage?
Second, I did what I'm sure is a novice thing to my M35A2, but not having
experience with them, It seemed ok.
I pulled a shed down with the winch, which worked great. As I was
re-winding the cable, I thought I could control the power wind from the
outside with the in and out handle. OOPS!
As the cable came to where I wanted it to stop, I found that the in handle
wouldn't go to out, and by the time I got into the cab to push in the
clutch, it had pulled the cable end thing (technical term, I'm sure), into
the spool area and bent the nice, straight (before) guard with the data
plates and instructions on it. The only thing that saved serious damage was
the shear pin, which did its job perfectly. (thanks to some engineer
there).
I just thought I'd share that experience so other neophytes, like myself,
wouldn't have the same experience, and to ask those with more knowledge,
when dealing with us novices, to tell us things that may seem obvious to
you, but isn't in our experience, yet.
Thanks for letting me ramble, I hope someone gets some help and others
maybe a good chuckle.
Henry
