You're right Jim, where's the beef?
Obviously there was a lot of "cross-over" between units and
Unit-related government issue items..Or else how would you
explain the success and ubiquity of Tankers Jackets, or A2
leather jackets all around?
We all actually like to ride our bikes with leather A2's and
tanker's helmets or our WWII MV's with tanker's gear, because it
is warm and comfortable. We're no different...
Many historians actually will tell you that the most likely GI's
to "commandeer" a tankers jacket or a A2 jacket were the rear
echelon guys with ready access to the goodies...
And, by the way I do also have a B4, and I use it all the time
to carry my stuff to Normandy gatherings. That and a metal foot
locker with padlock, painted OD with stencil markings: at least
I can leave that behind, locked into the tent without fear of
"losing" anything to over-eager visitors.
Antoine
PS Sheesh... another off-topic posting...
