OK List,
It's an M43 (M37 Ambulance built from 1950-1954) that's at a hunting
camp in New England (see Berndt's Standard Catalog page 62 for good
picture). The story is it was US Army, then surplus to a fire department
rescue squad, then to the current owner. He's had it for at least 20 years
and says it still runs and drives. Supposedly very complete and still OD
inside (fire dept. red outside naturally) including a couple litters and the
gas heater. Pictures show very good looking exterior with all the proper
bits including the spotlight on the cab roof but no spare tire carrier on
the door. Owner claims it only has one small spot of rust, but the BB gun
brigade has broken a windshield pane and a headlight. It was offered so
we're considering it - just to save it from rotting away in the woods,
otherwise we'd stay far away. He doesn't see himself going hunting too much
anymore after going this year and the local veterans honor guard think it'd
be great to ride in to their duties so it's been offered. He's asking $1,200
(and yes, the veterans are trying to talk him into donating it to "the
cause"). What do you guys think based on the limited info I have? What
should we look at /for? What should we beware of? Have we driven straight
off the deep end? (it won't be lonely in the barnyard that's already
overfull !)

Thanks In Advance,
Dennis O'Connor
