Re: [MV] 24V Jumper cable

I live in northern Wisconsin and in the winter have
had to drag vehicles from the ditch with my M715. As I
don't have much use for jumping 24V vehicles here, I
have wired my slave receptacle in 12V by hooking the
battery that goes to ground to it, both positive and
negative. This allows jumping TO a 12V system without
fuss, at least I haven't had any yet. It wouldn't jump
the 24V system if both batteries were low/dead. I
think it would work IF the second battery, the one
that goes to the starter, were good and the first
battery, the one to ground, was low/dead. In that
case, it should go.
There are problems with using such a setup though. If
one battery is lower in charge than the other, the
alternator, charging in 24V, will either overcharge
the one to fill the other, or fully charge one and
leave the other low. Niether is good in the long run.
This also applies to using 12V accessories on a 24V
system, as you end up drawing more off one than the
other. I have read, on the net, that small amp draws,
like 5 or less, are ok, but for more than that,
another solution should be used.
Is that $.02.....
