I got in late on this discussion / had a 1957 Ford Automoble that had hard
plastic pads about 2 inches square between leaf ends to stop squeaking, for
I remember repacing them one time, just drove wedge between leafs to spread
them and put new pads in, they stayed in place but I do not know why.
